I like democracy. To me it is a system where the politicians are our representatives and our servants.

Our politicians sit in the House of Representatives. They do not sit in the House of Leaders.

Unfortunately the career aparatchiks of both sides have come together and made a science of retaining power for their own good. There was a time when the cream of the working class and the cream of the business class sparred to bring us the best the country could offer. We now have dross that doesn't know what it stands for beyond the last focus group.

The Swiss have got it right with Citizens Initiated Referendums. The pollies need to be kept on a tighter leash.

In the main they are ex junior lawyers, bureaucrats and teachers. They scheme their way into a safe seat and suddenly think God gave them wisdom. They are the same drongos they were before they were elected.

I would like to see the pollies stopped from travelling overseas, have their postal allowance abolished and stop giving away our money in exchange for photo ops in Indonesia, China or elsewhere.

I want less government from the drongos on both sides.
