lots of interesting piont of direct today, why is the FIRB delaying- clearly political to me. the political should see approval as a postive to our major trading partner. with US tarriffs to come, we coule be in firing line, but with china and us doing deal in a fight againat the US, a better outcome.
Rio could not bid before as some suggest, as we had exclusive with chinese mob. Rio deals with chinese customers itslef, it would be a clear slap in face if the political delay opened up (cleared the way ) for a RIO bid. dirty politics more so
not sure rio would offer more anyway, the china deal is great for them as works out a much cheaper supply of the iron ore, might take them a little longer to mine the stuff, but would end up being well under current prices, with a very quick payback price for the purchase- clever them, a 3 year ? project business model to achieve profits
non approvalby FIRB would have a bad look for oz gov, it is not a mine a huge value, or significance, there were billion $ deals with china done this year if i recall
