Contingency on consulting is essentially a form of benefit share, over or instead of say billable hours
ie no fees till quantifiable benefit realised. Some sort of split.
bit like a sales comm only model
eg they sell tech for 500m we pay c14 guys 1m on settlement, nothing or nominal fees prior
