Clearly the market has seen too many failures on late, especially in Africa. An offtake partner primarily cares about the reliability of supply, both now and in the future. Unfortunately, Africa may struggle to guarantee continuous supply moving forward. With the region currently experiencing all kinds of incapacities and now political unrest, which may take years to resolve.
Thankfully, like Lynas, RNU's BAM project is located in a temperate climate within a safe mining jurisdiction and a country known for its strong ESG credentials. The Australian government offers robust support, along with a range of stimulus measures yet to be introduced, aimed at creating a resilient global supply chain for the future. OECD nations are dependent on Australia to do so because no one else can.
Traditionally, from now until early February, graphite supply will be tight as a colder than usual winter for major producers in China leads to reduced production. This is on top of new restrictions imposed on December 1.
