The original case won by Uniloc they were awarded US$388M in damages. Just looking quickly over the history of news articles ... It was then appealed successfully by microsoft based on the juror's not having sufficient technical knowledge I think. Now that judgement has been overturned but a new trial is required to determine damages. This new judgement seems to have upheld the patent infringement but says the method used to award damages was flawed. The new trial to determine damages may result in a lesser amount but not necessarily as there is 2 more years of royalties since then and we are talking big numbers... It was only a small % of revenue claimed in the damages claim to start with, based on prior negotiations with microsoft when they tried to buy the technology from Uniloc.

This was on the IMF October release of upcoming settlements last year for $150M only. I don't know if they were expecting a lower outcome from this trial, or had anticipated a lower eventual settlement. Even if the lower amount is correct, it is still their 2/2 for IMF in their $150M cases so far, and the possibility for more to come from this case. Very encouraging and I am surprised there was not more buyers today, or more comments and thumbs up here!!!
