Today, Meta announced it will release arequest for proposals (RFP)to identify nuclear energy developers to help us meet our AI innovation and sustainability objectives — targeting 1-4 gigawatts (GW) of new nuclear generation capacity in the U.S.; qualified developers can fill out the intake form to receive further guidance on the RFP process.
We are taking an open approach with this RFP so we can partner with others across the industry to bring new nuclear energy to the grid.

I lived as a kid in the Latrobe valley. The deaths from..... Could consider emission deaths and issues there perhaps? I prefer to look at how we can fix things rather than dump on things we all have used for decades despite the known issues which we are only just starting to deal with.
Back to Meta. Why 3-4 meg SMR nuclear?
"Compared to renewable energy projects that we continue to invest in, such as solar and wind, nuclear energy projects are more capital intensive, take longer to develop, are subject to more regulatory requirements, and have a longer expected operational life. These differences mean we need to engage nuclear energy projects earlier in their development lifecycle and consider their operational requirements when designing a contract. And, as scaling deployments of nuclear technology offers the best chance of rapidly reducing cost, engaging with a partner across projects and locations will allow us to ensure that we can deploy strategically. An RFP process will allow us to approach these projects thoroughly and thoughtfully with these considerations in mind."
Letting the market decide for their own use seem fair and efficient? Meta and others have tried part time power and know its is just some times and not nearly enough. It is clearly more efficient to have large scale! Larger Nuclear is significantly more efficient and cost effective over 50-100 years. Demand for secure and 24/7 *365 days for decades power in the large Industial and IT sectors is a lot like the US/USSR space race! It's a much more important race in many ways! The market decisions in Nuclear power from Meta, Microsoft, Google and more is just the start of the race to nuclear power both SMR and AP1000s
