To be clear I didn't suggest anything about free product or anything like that. But I take your point that a lot of people working in the space would be opposed to it.
I guess my thought was more about sponsoring breastfeeding education or services where there was a lack of funding or availability - i.e. there would be nothing otherwise.
It says right there in the agreement that the IF companies should promote breastfeeding ahead of formula and provide parents with information on the benefits of breastfeeding etc. Why not be at the forefront of this, whilst also positioning as the brand to turn to if/when formula is necessary.
Somehow we have Ronald MacDonald House here in QLD attached to the Children's hospital and Macca's sponsoring everything. Mind you I don't endorse that but what I suggested seems nowhere near as bad.
But maybe it is ultimately to thorny an issue and the risk / reward is not clear enough. I do think idea of funding broader maternity care etc. is really good though, especially in China.
