Onshore oil wells in Australia typically operate with varying water cut percentages, depending on factors such as the reservoir’s age, the oil’s characteristics, and the type of production method used. However, a general range for water cut in onshore Australian oil wells would be anywhere from 30% to 90%.

• Early-stage wells: In the initial stages of production, the water cut is usually low (often less than 10%) as the well primarily produces oil.
• Mature fields: As the reservoir ages and more water is produced alongside the oil (due to pressure decline and water injection for secondary recovery), water cut can increase significantly. For many mature onshore fields, water cut can range from 50% to 70%, but in some cases, it may exceed 90%.

Some fields use enhanced oil recovery (EOR) methods, like water flooding, to increase production, which can also raise the water cut percentage.

The specific value can vary widely by field and reservoir characteristics, so operators tend to closely monitor and optimize the water cut for each well.
