I'm with Rabbitoh. It is an extension on the theme of buy local when it comes to food production. Within reason, I don't mind paying a bit more to support enterprises that support business in Australia ... and all the jobs that flow from that.
What you are all talking about here seems to have the fervour that was present in America early in the globalisation cycle ... the final outcome from "outsourcing" and "offshoring" in America is there now in all its ugly glory for all to see ... the world's first post industrial economy!
Do we all want parking lots turned into car home parks ... do we all want to see unemployment nudging 10% ... do we all want to see suburbs of empty houses?
Careful what sharp, deal hungry shoppers wish for ... whose job's are at stake?
The really important things in life that flow from employment are being clothed, not hungry, housed and able to raise a family ... not much else really matters imo.
