Just my few bob on the cat food front

Cats are carnivores, unlike dogs which are omnivores ie meat and veg

Meat is about 70% water and high in protein

High water content promotes flushing of the kidney and bladder ie less crystals. Dry food promotes concentrated urine, has low water content and low in protein, often bulked out with carbs. Thus cats on ad lib dry food get fat and more likey to get crystals in the urine.

Fat cats on dry food are more prone to diabetes for the same low protein high carb reason. You can cure an early diabetic cat by taking it of dry food and feeding it meat!

Dry food is ok IF it is good quality ie good quality protein. Dry food is convenient and produces less at the other end but make sure you don't free pour it. Dry food has 4x calories of meat due high oil and low water content. The expensive dry food is usually better quality and not too bad cost wise if you read the pack and only feed whs is recommended
