According to NEU’s share trading policy the black out period for results begins Jan 1 and extends to when they announce the results (understandably). There’s also a specific clause that prevents trading during discussions in relation to a significant transaction… and of course any other price sensitive news.
However the buyback hasn’t really done much for the share price. They’ve been as aggressive as they can be but ASIC rules around buying back securities are so strict you can’t really use it to instigate a sustained rebound and uptrend. They might have realised that money is better utilised either in the form of a dividend or reinvested back into the company to accelerate growth.
It doesn’t bother me. I’ll let the shorters worry and angst over what the pause in the buyback might mean.
