@TesterWA I arrived in Australia a few years earlier than you - just before Christmas and my then fiancee, in his wisdom had decided to leave South Australia (where I was headed - by boat - and was duly dropped off at Port Adelaide, even though there was no-one to pick me up). My fiancee had gone to live and prepare a place for me in Sydney, because I was a 'city girl'. But the 'boat' was early (one of the Flotta Lauro's, don't remember which) - and there was no-one . . . . I still remember sitting in some kind of office, on a bench, with an official behind a large counter, winking at me from time to time - at the time that sort of wink was only known by me - and done by - in Europe - by men who had 'evil' intentions - and I didn't know where to look. But he looked kind and I assumed there was only kind intent - - - so funny now, but people no longer do that.
Anyway, the local Seamen's Mission Pastor got hold of me, turned out to be 'Pastor Zinnbauer' of local fame and great standing (originally Jew, christened Catholic, then converted to Lutheranism - he and his wife were really kind souls - became well-known in Adelaide) and took me in. Eventually, after 3 weeks of searching, I got a letter with a flight ticket to Sydney - and the rest is history, as they say . . . .
One of my former bosses here in West Aussie was also in Fairbridge Farmschool, he did not have flattering views about it - is now deceased - - - @NoBoDe sends his greetings to you - he has trouble now speaking at length - I am truly worried about him, but it's no help to him, so I just try and cheer him up, still wants to visit - I have my doubts. Anyone any experience with emphysema and how to ease the burden? Everybody: please don't smoke - EVER!!
