I appreciate the viewpoint but these African countries are huge and there should be zero impact of political unrest on operations of mines in a farflung place like Balama. The local populations do not have any say in protests 1000kms away in the capital and just want to work and make money to feed their families on a daily basis. They are literally living hand to mouth.
SYR will of course evacuate any foreign workers but if they haven't bothered do train any locals to do those jobs in all the years they have been in Mozambique then that is terrible management! SYR will use any excuse they can to justify the problems of their own making, and a political uprising is a convenient one to add to the list...
I've seen this many times while living in Africa - protests are not spontaneous - they are planned - and contained in populous areas. 99% of the populations of these countries don't have the time or money to engage in any protest, even if they don't like those in power.
Sure, everyone wants a peaceful resolution but let's be realistic - nobody in Africa is giving up power without a fight. The rewards are too great. I hope your optimism is rewarded
