The childhood retention grant has only been signed up by a miserable 5% of Australia's childhood sector. The reason is that it is a poisoned chalice for service providers. The Government has not even come forward with the details as to how it's going to operate (sound familiar?) and providers have every right to be wary at this stage.
It is understood that they will be thousands out of pocket just on the basis they won't be reimbursed in full for employee on-costs (such as leave loadings) associated with the grant.
Also, there are another couple of impediments: it may be a better course for service providers to await Award restructuring coming out of the claim for parity with the Aged Care sector (18% increase with no strings attached vs. being handcuffed to the 15% grant with all this fee capping); and then we have the federal election by May at the latest. Coalition gov't could change everything.
