@thecurious1 - Please
@wotsup - do not read this, as I cannot pretend 'to know' you, but can appreciate why you are the way you are - and I am aware that this might offend you.
All of the Abrahamic religions are like that, in fact most religions; denigrating women, putting her in second place, when we all had mothers who would give their lives for us, who will always stand by us, much more than fathers - if we are lucky we had good fathers, too, but they are rarer - just check the stats.
Being a woman, I have a theory, which is not for here. but I'll give it a try: - hopefully I am not being crude -
. . . seems many men cannot come to terms with the fact that they have these overwhelming desires when it comes to 'female flesh' - so it follows 'the temptress' needs to be subjected and made to look unimportant, by 'putting her in place'
secondly; 'made out to be evil' hence the 'Whore of Babylon'
and thirdly, definitely no female priests - how could they - and celibate priesthoods, if possible, but we have seen what that achieves (Catholic Church)
I have seen enough publications of one of those more modern 'religions' mostly coming out of America, and I am still astounded at the comic-like character of the bedevilment of womankind in them, the big feature being 'the Whore of Babylon' - and the 'Snake' (also hinted at being 'female' even though doubling as 'the devil' when needed) and
the evil deed of Eve, bringing disaster on all mankind, by being curious about the 'forbidden tree' -
and woman, i.e. '
Eve' made from the rib of Adam = gimme a break!!! That's the most gob-smacking stupidity, repeated and believed by educated people!!! I actually find that offensive! I had a husband who once said to me: "I believe the first form of life was 'female' " - he was only half-right - there are early life-forms which already show 2 sexes, too - but definitely, when you think about a cell just splitting in half, is that male or female? it is neither, but division into different sexes proved to be an evolutionary advantage, resulting in greater variety of forms/plants/animals, achieving greater adaptability.
most of the Biblical stories do not stand up to modern analytical psychiatric analysis (as Sigmund Freud has shown) - they do not come out as 'the word of G.d' or any other superior being, except some ancient priest/prophet, cheesed off with life, having added his bit of wisdom - and we all have wisdom, so there are precious kernels of truth to be found, also, often couched in beautiful language. Yes, it has had nation-building influence, it held the Jewish people together, but look what is happening in the most Holy of all Cities, right now? But religion has also pitched nation against nation, tribe against tribe . . .
Sorry
@wotsup - you are quite special, insofar, that you have become entranced with the romance of 'The Bible' - the 'word'- and no-one is going to convince you otherwise, you are a true believer, but you should know by now, where I stand, and also, pls. take it over to the philosophy & religion thread. I am sure you are a worthy husband, father and friend, but whether your religious convictions have anything to do with your innate character, I doubt, you probably were all those good things from the beginning.
