I don't thing Zhang sets out intending to fail, he just does.
These guys, Nathan, Zhang, Babidge even (as much as it pains me to say it) all struck gold during a gold boom when daigou sales was unregulated and China birth rates were still increasing. They convinced themselves it was all down to their genius. Times changed but their business strategies and delusions of grandeur have not.
