Hi Onshow,
For charting software you are best to jump in at the higher end imo and make it work for you..
I did that 3 years ago and have never looked back, at the time I was way out of my league I thought but found the transition smooth..in the long run..
What you need is a good EOD Charting Platform that scans...eg Metastock or Hubb I find Metastock more accurate it maybe a personal thing but it incorporates a very good scanning system as well as a back testing system..and you can use other peoples formulas or write your own its not that hard if you read a bit and do your homework but it will give you the edge over the others..imo
You will also need if you are serious about being a trader need a Live Platform....Spark is the go imo it will scan the Market on volume for you during the day...set it up to what you want to find..eg stock on volume in the last 5 mins on news...ect
I hope this helps..
Pete
