How about the contagion risk if, as you say SGR "goes belly up", Macquarie almost collapsed when Babcock and Brown collapsed in 2008/09. The Rudd Government by bailing out the super system, Aussie workers super balances and the ASX itself, saved MAcquarie from extinction in 2008/09.
If SGR was to fail, and I'm not saying it will because the Aussie economy will collapse, MAcquarie would be in the frontline for extinction yet again. I do not think it will happen.
Every money laundering, anti-trust or regulated stock on the ASX will be in the firing line and the following companies would receive contagion risk just like Macquarie not to mention the super debacle that would follow: Woolworths, Coles, Metcash/ IGA, Westpac, Bank of Queensland, AMP, A2 Milk, QBE, Transurban. ANZ, EML, IAG, Steadfast, CBUS, AustralianSuper, Aware Super, Wesfarmers, NAB, CBA, Crown Casino, ClubsNSW, Super Retail Group, Sky City, Qantas, Virgin, Seven West Media, Nine Entertainment Group, Southern Cross, Ampol, Woodside, Guardian Learning Centers, Beach Petroleum Optus, Telstra or Telstra- AGL NIB Medibank Private Origin Energy, Beach Petroleum, AMA Group, Suncorp. and others.
The hope of all of us is that SGR survives or is at least saved like Westpac was when Westpac could have died as a result of the money laundering scandal.
