You make some very interesting observations WDC, many of which go far beyond my comprehension and knowledge base!![]()
But i do look fairly closely at the daily short variations as well to gain some indication of where the price may be heading on a daily basis - in order to top up - I'm certainly not in the game for day trading, just buying the odd parcel from time to time (I definitely remain very bullish on the fundamental value of CU6's work and all things about the bis molecule linked with Cu64/67 isotopes.
I'd suggest the shorting actually has a profound impact on the day to day trading direction and its momentum of trading. And of course this is all backward looking with a lag of 4 trading days that makes it more intriguing as well.
Why do I dare suggest such a relatively small percentage of shorts has such an impact on the share price? If you look at the daily trading chart, price and volume you get a feel for the regularity (or not) of volume spikes ('mini-dumps' or '-pumps') which i suggest does tend to influence the price change during each day, even though there might not be a significant gross change in shorting for the entire day.
So for example, yesterday there were a number of mini-dumps during the session each of which managed to push the price lower. This also probably influences the decision for buyers as to whether they want to purchase shares. I'd assume there are a lot interested to buy, but watching on from the sidelines at the moment, waiting for total sentiment to change. (This is probably a good safe strategy, but from time to time i prefer to add a few more - just in case there's a much-anticipated announcement that could arrive any time).
So based on my observations of yesterday's trading I'd suggest there's likely to be another overall gross increase in total shorts, possibly as much as 300,000 (up to 400,000) more shorts, but that won't be confirmed by ASIC's register for another 3 more days.
