Kenya has no history of commercial coal mining unlike its neighbor Tanzania. Further it is very corput and has lots of humanitarian issues (mass famine last year). To be honest I would expect that a contender with very deep pockets and good connections to the local Gov. will get the nod.
Further the port access to Mombasa is a night mare. The road should have been upgraded for last few years and it is a collection of potholes over which the trucks have to navigate. The port itself is in not much better shape either and corpution there is in full flury.
However I think it will be good for the share price in the short run and maybe in the end the more favorable result if they don't have to reinvent the wheel in Kenya.
