I had a 5.32kW system with 5kW inverter set up on our shed in November. Got the first bill from Synergy yesterday. Taking out the one-off cost for the meter upgrade and the rebate application, my energy bill has gone from $500 in 2 months to $70. If I save $400 every 2 months (and I know it will fluctuate throughout the year but using this as an average) then I save $2,400 a year. System pays for itself in about 8 years, based on todays energy costs. If it rises, then the payoff will be slightly shorter.
So are you harvesting the sun or the subsidy?
Had a cold call from a solar salesman and the penny dropped for me. What you describe suits a two income family where they shut the house @ 8am and get home @ 6pm. They THEN switch on the air-cons, the plasma, the stove and everything else that contributes to the evening peak which the most expensive power your provider supplies, but you buy that at a fraction of the cost of that piddlin amount you provide during the steady day usage period. your provider must still build the same amount of generation capacity in case of cloudy days and even keep spinning reserve in case a cold front blows in.
No wonder power is becoming so expensive. Why should the gubmint subsidise you?
