Their expenses are largely in euros, so they're keeping most of their cash in euros. They are required to give their accounts in Australian dollars, however, so a notional loss shows up.
If they keep all their money in Australian dollars they are exposed to foreign exchange risks (the dollar could go up or down), so they sensibly keep only the money needed to fund Australian operations in Australian currency.
