Vanadium from shale is low purity and expensive to produce (over $10USD/lb). Their original plan was to barrel oil. There is a reason they're inventing a new process - currrent ones don't work! Process innovation is rarely good news in the mining and mineral sectors.
EPA approval and OFS Phase 1 are done.
Yarrabubba EPA approval and Tenindewa land rezoning are the last two hurdles to FID (Funding, offtake etc. which are heavily advanced). These items are likely closed out by middle of the year. Your point about batteries is irrelevant, battery storage has not ramped up significantly globally, and VFBs are only just entering the market at scale outside of China. It is an emerging industry.
