"Yet without any compromise there's no way forward, is there?"
Well, there is,really, but it wouldnt happen with out a fight. Israel has been illegally occupying Palestine since 1967,and breaching the Geneva Convention rules for Occupying Nations. No ifs or buts. Legally, it should withdraw to '67 boundaries. It wouldnt do that willingly. So, practically, some small concessions could be made. But concessions ARE an act of weakness, even in the interests of practicallity, but in terms of REALITY, may be worth considering. Giving up Jerusalem entirely, every source of water or arable ground, and being left with just desert, wouldnt appeal to a Palestinian. I note every week, lately, another country recognises the State of Palestine. Last week it was Russia. Gaza was reported last week as being on full alert, due to the escalation of Israeli attacks on it in recent weeks. They are expecting Gaza War mk2. If Israel attacks and slaughters as many as last time, the world will unite in revulsion, and more will recognise Palestine.
re "Concessions were needed on both sides and eventually the talks failed. " Because only one side was prepared to make concessions. I'm not exactly an "Armchair Jihadist", Pete, but I can see that Peace negotiations with Israel are a joke, and soon as the PA become convinced beyond doubt of that, they will go back to the Hamas way. I dont wish it to happen, but it will. They wont just crawl away and die like Israel hopes they will.
