Difference between realised and assumed earnings rate on investments is major driver. It looks obvious that the assumed earnings rates are too high. Last time we saw that was 2020 and they had enormous write downs. Not enough of an actuary but given that investments are primarily invest grade credit, how they can overestimate earnings rates so badly
