I do not know what Telix think of Cu64 as an isotope. The only comment I am aware of came from the Telix CEO, CB, when he was talking about how they had bought the Clarity supply chain, which (in his view) was going to delay Clarity from commercialising their diagnostics. (They bought a company that used to supply Cu64 and Cu67 to Clarity)!
Anyhow, its hard to know what they think about Cu64. Its hard to follow coz they are experimenting with every useable isotope that one can think of: Gallium-68 (in Illuccix), Fluorine-18 (same isotope in Lantheus's Pylarify), Copper-64 (same as Clarity products), Zirconium-89, Actinium-225, Technetium-99m, Rhenium-188, Lutetium-177 (used in Pluvicto), Iodine-131, Astatine-211, Yttrium-90, Samarium-153. Hard too keep up!
However, its notable that Cu64 might give them an opportunity to go into next day imaging if they can make their technology work! I know some TLX folks have been critical of next day imaging so it will be interesting when that opportunity becomes 'possible' for them!
What might TLX use of Cu64 mean versus Clarity's diagnostics? [While I can't comment on the performance of their targetting molecule TLX592 - as the data isnt yet available], its worth remembering that what gives 64Cu-Sar-bisPSMA real Super Powers is not the Copper isotope: it's the bis (the dimer) in the Sar-bis! Copper gives the product greater flexibility, which then allows for imaging next day, for even better results.
This superiority of bis has been demonstrated in mono versus dimer (the bis) studies, including more recently with FAP. ASX Announcement (1): "The monomer had moderate uptake at 1 hour, which decreased over 24 hours. The dimer had a higher uptake at 1 hour, rising further to 11.6 % IA/gat 4 hours. At 24 hours, the dimer had 6.2 %IA/g, which is approximately 8 times greater retention than the monomer."
The mono is what Alan Taylor refers to when he says, ".... we made one like theirs .... we found that it was just as bad as theirs .... we went back to the bench-top, and made the bispecific ...."(2).
If Clarity were to use the mono version of the Cu64 diagnostic to do same day imaging, we can expect the same results as Illucix and Pylaryfy (i.e. no superiority). Yet, as we know from PROPELLER and COBRA, 64Cu-Sar-bisPSMA is superior to Illucix and Pylarify even on same day imaging, thanks to the bis!
A bit more on the Telix way! Illucixx will generate a billion dollars this year. So, TLX hasve lots of money, and they are using it to buy stuff! Lots of stuff. Nothing is home grown.
TLX592 is an antibody (an antibody fragment). TLX is using Antibodies, Peptides, as well as Small molecules for targetting. They buy not just the products, but buildings, and staff (scientists) all come in as a package. So, there is a lot happening at Telix. No real patents.
Its an incredible business! Very successful. Hard to follow.
I do wish Telix had bought Clarity instead of splashing cash everywhere and on anyone! Should've gone to Specsavers comes to mind!
