Yet Whitlam somehow managed to balance the budget & maintain zero debt for all but the last year in office.
The real trainwreck to govt finances and debt was Fraser and Howard's period 1976 to 1982. And the economy didnt fare much better - high inflation, high unemployment and interest in high teens.
So where did this myth that the liberals were/are good economic managers come about?
