If you feel disgust at people who displace other people, then you will understand how Jews feel towards the rest of the world who did nothing whilst the Nazi's displaced them from their homes throughout Europe and attempted to liquidate the entire lot of them. The Muft of Jerusalem at the time partnered with Hitler to assist in the liquidation of the Jews in Palestine at the time. The British restricted the quota of Jews that could enter Palestine to escape the Nazis and sent those that tried to enter Palestine to concentration camps in Cyprus.
The Jewish state has Nuclear bombs as a deterrant because Jews have had a bad experience in the past and know how easily the world can turn on them. The only reason Israel has not been destroyed by Syria, Hezbollah, Hamas, Iran, Iraq etc already is because they fear Israel's Nuclear capability.
Israel has never used its military strength to invade other countries and build an empire. It has used it when it has either been invaded or had rockets fired on it from outside its borders to protect itself.
As I mentioned previously, I have visited Tel Aviv and it is as beautiful as any modern city in the world I've been to. All I was saying is that when one appreciates the enormity of Israels' development under the Israeli's, that the Jews need Israel as a homeland (because they have been turned upon when living elsewhere) and the enmity the Arabs feel towards non-muslims, particularly Jews, it is obvious that common ground to reach peace is going to be very difficult.
