You seem similarly confused with chemical energy changes as hydrogen reacts to form water. To extract hydrogen from water you need to put energy into the system. Thermal energy will work but you need to cook the water at 1000C or higher. Electrolysis is a more convenient option. Make no mistake though, hydrogen and oxygen atoms remain as discrete entities within water molecules in a 2:1 ratio. (called a "stoichiometric" ratio if you like big words)

I have a strong suspicion that many denialists live in fear due to their limited understanding of basic physical sciences.

I wonder what sort of a science background the noisy Bolt denialist has. I do know he left university studies after one year but I have no idea whether he left due to failure or to pursue other interests.

I do love science as many hotcopper users probably realise. I wouldn't go so far as to call it my religion but if others see it that way, I really don't mind. One thing setting science apart from some religions is the fluidity in what some see as dogma. Everything in science is subject to change as we gain more knowledge. In geology we call it "ground truthing" and it can be irritating to investors when what they thought were established "facts" change as we discover greater truth in a mineral deposit. RMINCONSULT, a poster on the NTU forum today summed up this uncertainty with the words,
