CBMM has increased FeNb capacity to 150 ktpa, current total world demand is around 125 ktpa. Niobium oxide for batteries is currently around 3000 tpa. Barite is a by product of Nb processing and sells for around 100 - 300 USD per ton, production is expected to reach around 130ktpa.
Korean, Japanese and Chinese steelmakers control 30% of CBMM to meet their Nb requirements for HSLAS.
With increased supply on the horizon and threats to CBMM's market share it could be assumed depressed FeNb prices will follow.
It would seem an over supply of Nb is imminent.
