even the local shire is getting excited about cloncurry. A Cloncurry councillor says the town's economy is in a sound position, with several multimillion dollar mining projects set to go ahead.
Xstrata is expanding its underground Ernest Henry copper mine and processing magnetite this year.
Cloncurry Deputy Mayor Greg Campbell says he hopes the mining developments will boost local housing demand.
"Talking to a couple of the local agents just recently there's not a lot actually selling just at the moment but the signs are good that there's a lot more interest and things are starting to move," he said.
"So I think it'll only get better as the year progresses, it looks like we're going to have a good, productive year at the council, we're planning for this year to be the year that we get our new community precinct, the construction underway."
Cr Campbell says the economy is looking much stronger than it was a year ago.
"Some of the announcements around, some of the junior miners are continuing to produce some good test results in some of their drilling and there's also a fair bit of development happening at the Ivanhoe mine," he said.
