This announcement follows on from the JDA with Atilium announced 28th March 2024 which was to investigate if it was possible to turn their recycled graphite into our Talnode-C. That was set to expire December this year.
The results must be positive given they’ve now moved to an MoU to supply recycled graphite with proposed tonnages!
What will be interesting is where will this be built. The study so far has had funding from the UK, which doesn’t benefit from yesterday’s green industrial deal. And Atilium are based in the UK. Feels like it would make sense to build a small modular refinery in the UK, possibly for UK customers. I personally don’t think it would make sense for them to ship it to Lulea and back out again, and Talga mention global expansion.
We also have a JDA with Arubis in Germany signed in September 2024, so more recent. Given the positive outcome with Atilium, the chances of us successfully creating recycled talnode-c from Arubis’ recycled graphite have increased. I could see it making sense to build a recycled talnode-c refinery in Germany, taking advantage of all of the EU funding and support, and feeding recycled graphite from both Atilium and Arubis into it and being sold to German customers.
The great thing about recycled talnode-c, we could build many smaller refineries around the world, co-located with black mass recyclers and close to customers, given it’s not tethered to our mine location.
