It's interesting thinking about the comments made yesterday in the call. On one hand you have management saying they don't intend to become a fully functional pharma company, then on the other you hear Jon say that possibly further down the track they may consider regular dividends (I'm paraphrasing here I may have that wrong). I'm not implying anything untoward here, I think it's a case of Jon responding to shareholder questions in the best way he can where he doesn't know exactly what the future holds. But the overall sentiment I took away from the call was they want to sell the company, if there was any doubts about their intent I think that was cleared up yesterday.
However, If Neuren doesn't get what they want price wise, then I believe Neuren will keep pushing until someone blinks, whether that be filing an NDA with the FDA, rapidly building sales force and team in the US etc. They won't be standing still, so in that regard I think you need to have the cash on hand for contingencies such as these. Perhaps thats what Jon was referring to when he spoke about future dividends. It's an option to go it alone, but not the desired one.
Otherwise, I'd love a fully franked dividend. If Neuren had cash surplus to its needs and they found a way to take advantage of the franking credits, why not?
