I don’t normally buy into these types of discussion but I think trying to seek the benefits of capitalism and healthcare in the US is a losing argument.
The US has both the lowest life expectancy in the OECD but also the highest costs. In other words it is the least effective system in the OECD.
while I don’t purport to understand the insurance mechanism in the US we have a multi-tier approach here. The drug costs were available are negotiated at a national level. It means that the opportunity for drug companies to play hospitals and states against each other is minimised. This is done by the TGA.
then we have public healthcare. Where there is largely a subsidisation of many drugs and care. Then we have private healthcare. Which is above and beyond.
Not saying it’s perfect. But it does work
