Jeanluc - we've had 50m shares trade daily the past couple of sessions. That's a bit above recent daily trading averages but probably not surprising in light of the increase in the gold price of late and the interest in gold miners that the rising price has caused.
It doesn't suggest to me, at this stage anyway, that someone is building a holding in VAU or exiting a position they already have. A bit of after-market crossing between insto's seems to be the most likely explanation. But as I posted quite recently, these after-market trades of late seem to be a bit more numerous in this stock than they have been for a while, so you just never know.
I personally don;t see a problem that some shareholders are selling at these levels. Those selling are most likely entities/individuals taking some cash off the table and booking pretty impressive profits I'd guess. Those buying are most likely entities/individuals who think the price of gold will continue to rise. I sold a handful of shares recently, bought them back and them sold them again yesterday. We're in a volatile climate at the moment where no-one knows what''ll happen tomorrow.
Broker forecasts have a bit of commonality at the moment. They all seem to think the "peak gold price" this cycle will be around September this year. That should be a bit of a caution to those who think the gold price may keep on rising forever and that current, or better, gold prices will be realised by VAU when their hedges disappear next year.
Then again, good money can be made not following the herd if the herd is wrong.
