Meg, could perhaps apply a simple version of the drunken sailor probability theory. It goes something like this: if you are told to find a drunk who was last seen wandering around a few hours ago at location A where would you start looking. Obviously, the drunk could have ended up anywhere but that anywhere could be just as likely location A and at least you know for a fact they were at location A at one point. (long story, sorry).
Bottom line is that the Canadian spodumene mines were being developed because none of best chances in the US - Smackover, Thacker Pass, Salton Sea - even in the best case will not produce enough to supply US domestic demand at a competitive price.
The US electoral cycle is 2 + 2 years. Now, true, the north American lithium supply chain could end up anywhere in the next couple of years but if I had to guess those big Canadian spodumene mines will be very much in demand in the years ahead.
