I caught the falling knife today like others because the timing (and the price) suited me. Setting aside for a moment the suggestion that DVP has not been paid, my thoughts went immediately to the nature of the contracts between contractors like DVP and their clients.
So can I ask - I am sure there will be folks who know? - is it industry practice for the contractor to take responsibility for both the mining and its outcome or only for the mining which occurs strictly at the direction of the client? You can see where I am going I am sure, does the failure to achieve production ever become a contract breach of the contractor such that there might be financial impacts? I am not talking about inability to get staff or trucks etc, I am talking about failure to plan, to research, to be clever, to be responsible for outcomes. Or is it like the teenage kids, they only do strictly what they are directed to do....?
