Do not confuse embedded with Discrete memory as you have with your example. embedded is low capacity in regards to it's intended purpose and does not require the capacity for retention.
Discrete is a whole new ball game when it comes down to storage. Traditional discrete is stacked and depending on the type of selector various capacities are created.
The difference between what is in use today and what WBT is developing is vastly different. Discrete memory as it stands, when written to updates the whole array.
WBT are developing so that only the cells that require updating or writing to are the only changes made in the cycle.
This will vastly increase the speed of read and write and where our discrete can change the whole design of the likes of the home PC as it could replace the requirement external RAM with the inception of PIM.
You mention how much of the market is Non Volatile... Over 90% of the memory market is Non- Volatile. Being Non Volatile means that is does not require an external power supply source for the memory to retain the memory status when power is switched off from the main system.
WBT is not working within the Volatile memory market.
