So what if the funding could be April-June
FEED Engineering can start Immediately in April, that will keep ol'China boy happy
Looking at this logically
IXRs, Ionic Technologies
1. Strong Government Backing
Already received £5M+ in UK grants (e.g., £1.72M for demo plant, £1.27M for supply chains). The Automotive Transformation Fund (ATF) explicitly supports projects like Ionic’s to secure EV/Wind/Defense supply chains, showing strong support
2. Strategic Alignment
Fits the UK’s Critical Minerals Strategy and net-zero goals, reducing reliance on Chinese rare earth imports. The APC (grant administrator) prioritizes sovereign capabilities with the supply chains, Process & Refining REOs - Magnet Alloys - Magnet Makers and have been great supporters of Ionic Technologies including ATF and Innovate UK
3. Proven Viability
Feasibility study confirms $502M NPV, 43.6% IRR, and 2.4-year payback.Demonstration plant already operational, validating scalability, Partnerships with Ford, LCM, and Vacuumschmelze ensuring future offtake agreements.
4. Job Creation
The project is expected to create up to 100+ new skilled jobs in Belfast alone and create/save further jobs in the UK's automotive/Wind sections, which aligns with the UK Gov objectives.
5. Private Equity
There are many private equity funds available to help Ionic Technologies in securing funding, these private equity funds deal with Clean Energy, recycling, rare earths, Climate change and Green Technologies
JapSki is betting on that IXR will not receive funding
What are the implication if Ionic Technologies receives no funding
1. Strategic Setback
Failure to fund this project could hinder the UK's progress towards establishing sustainable and sovereign REOs supply chain
2. Economic Impact
Job creations/save in many sectors
3. Competitive Disadvantages
Fall behind other EU countries in Magnet Recycling, losing competitive edge in green tech and advance manufacturing
4. Environment
Meeting Net-Zero, transition to renewable energy
5. Loss of Innovation Potential
Ionic technologies represent significant innovation in sustainable technologies with over 15 years of work and research invested, from Academia, to Lab, to pilot to Demo plant and the final step Commercial
and the biggest one would be
Missed opportunity for value, the project has shown strong potential for profit, no funding could mean that the UK Gov missing out on long term economic benefits, reputation damaged given that the UK Gov has supported Ionic Technologies and established partnership with LCM and FORD and finally increase reliance on foreign sources, without domestic recycling capabilities, the UK Gov may need to rely on foreign source for REOs, potentially compromising security and economic resilience.
Ionic Technologies are now producing, Commercial plant can also be increased in size because its scalability is modular 200t of REOs/Module
