I don't know if any one else experienced this when crackers were just a part of life, ... but on one occasion, me and a mate, (both about 10-11), were trying to get to penny bungers and put them out before they exploded, and hoped there was enough wick left for us to relight them later. The thing was, other kids were shooting them out of a shanghai, and it didn't concern them that we were effectively interfering with their fun, because they were probably having more fun watching our antics, and they were probably waiting to see one go off as we picked it up and tried to put out the wick.
Another funny thing, .. especially to watch, at the local Police Boys Club, ... 5 - 6 young blokes in the boxing ring, ... the bell is rung, ... but they are all blindfolded. .... bit OH&S, & politically incorrect these days though.
