So they can do it, but separate plants/ circuits to cater for the different feedstock, being either MREC or EOL magnets, as stated below.

acquired in 2022, has developed processes for the separation and recovery of rare earth elements
(REE) from mining ore concentrates and recycled permanent magnets.

The way its shaping up, Belfast will definitely be a recycler, turning old magnets into oxides.

They did have a refinery strategy once upon a time, which I believe was earmarked for the US, but I never did see anything further on this.

As part of an integrated strategy to create downstream supply chain value, IonicRE is also evaluating
the development of its own magnet and heavy rare earth refinery, or hub, to separate the unique and
high value magnet and heavy rare earths dominant Makuutu basket into the full spectrum of REOs
plus scandium.

Maybe, this is back on the cards?

With supply becoming more and more restrictive, the US or DOD/DOE backed partners just may back a plan to fire up Makuutu, and fund our refinery aspirations in the US.

Things seem to be heating up in the Trump administration, with the understanding that they can no longer rely on China for RE supply of their most critical industry- defence...

Let's just see where this takes us....we may just be the overnight success that's been 10 years in the making..
