Hey Angus,
I honestly feel your response is irrelevant to the actual subject at hand.
Are you suggesting that I should allow an intruder to shoot and kill me while I do absolutely nothing?
Yeshua’s sacrifice on the cross is not the same situation at all. It’s a totally different subject with a completely different purpose.
Scripture is clear, in my opinion, on this matter.
Exodus 22:2 (TLV):
“If the thief is caught breaking in and is struck so that he dies, there is no bloodguilt.”
This clearly shows that defending your home — even to the point of killing an intruder — is not considered murder. God makes a clear distinction between self-defence and wilful murder.
This isn’t about the old or new covenant either. As you know, the new covenant simply ended the need for sacrificial laws. We no longer need to sacrifice animals for the forgiveness of sins — Yeshua’s blood is sufficient for that.
But the Ten Commandments still stand. And their enhancements throughout Scripture make it clear: wilful murder and killing in self-defence are two very different things.
If you can show me otherwise in scripture I am all ears brother.
