Virtually all of the fall was in the after market closing auction.
The word from a UK BB is that volatility is resulting from CMC Markets closing out positions.
From The Times business section on 26/1:
"Smaller company specialists attributed at least part of the volatility on AIM to a decision by CMC Markets to stop taking bets on the junior market. Although the city bookmaker gave clients until February 11 to close their bets or have them closed for them, some were reckoned to be doing so already"
