    It is viable because they had a better investment and government enviroment, plus it was developed by companies with other production streams, eg oil, coal etc, to use as development funds until their CBM operations became profitable, just like Origin have done.

    It is highly intensive work and if you aren't drilling and completing 100 wells a year, every year,,you are not goind to survive on purely CBM. That is $30-50 million in development a year, every year plus what ever you're overheads are say another $3-5 million.

    The large CBM companies/ operators in the states drill 3000-4000 wells a year and smaller ones may do 300 wells.
