Two stories from the Sunny Coast with WW
Buderim - application went in but public did not want it but store built anyway and I talked to the butcher in the main street and WW were selling meat cheaper than he could buy it
Other street stores the same, driven out by prices they could not afford
Maleny --- similar story and the new store was almost empty for a long time before people started to use it
In both cases the residents did not want them but the council still gave them permits to open
Lots of independent people in the hills behind the Coast
Jan 2023 Woolworths will close 250 of its 300 remaining in-store butcher counters, in a move that’s set to cut almost 500 jobs. The supermarket giant informed staff of the measure on Thursday, revealing it will instead move its focus towards pre-packaged meat. Thirty per cent of stores currently have a meat counter, which accounts for just four per cent of Woolworths’ meat sales.
So drive shop front, real butchers out and then cut the service by cutting out the butcher as well, and selling stuff in plastic from goodness knows where, it called a monopoly which was illegal in earlier times
