Ones portfolio make up should depend on where one is in life's cycle. I would expect a 20 year old to invest mainly in small cap specs, whereas folks retired, like myself, would have their money in safe high- yield stocks.

I'm retired myself but don't own any "safe high- yield stocks" because I think the term is an oxymoron. BHP is safe but has poor dividend payout so I play the risky end. I doubt this idea would suit many others but I'm a late starter on investing and don't have the million dollar + portfolio to sit back and enjoy.

I don't put my house at risk and have a low maintenance wife so if I blow it I'll survived and I'll have tried!!!!
