Problem is Trump has created so much uncertainty, investors and business can't make decisions when they don't know when or what Trump has another brain fart. There is a complete lack of direction so investors and business go into a mode of minimising risk.
The big retailers that sell mostly products made in China would have cancelled order when Trump put the 145% tariff on goods from China, in the coming weeks their shelves will become empty. Even with Trump saying he will soften the tariff, no one knows what the tariff will be so they will hold off untill they have more certainty but even then they will tread with caution
