The Circular Critical Materials Supply Chains CLIMATES) program was launched two years
ago by Innovate UK with £15 million in government funding to strengthen critical minerals supply
chains and build crucial partnerships supporting circularity. This strategic initiative directly
supports the UK's transition to net-zero and deployment of clean energy technologies.
This initiative creates a completely circular supply chain where, each stage of the process from
magnet recycling to EV testing will generate waste (magnets and swarf)... all of which could
eventually be recycled by Ionic, establishing the UK's first domestic source of high-purity
separated rare earth oxides.
The project was showcased at a high-profile CLIMATES event at the Houses of Parliament,
supported by the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Critical Minerals, highlighting its strategic
importance to UK energy transition and industrial policy.
