The good news is that the bottom is likely in and there is some upside in the following months. The bad news is that disinterested government, NIMBY regional politicians and an incompetent Australian CEO is not a recipe for success. In the past 10 years, the Chinese managed to reinvent the EV space, transform companies such as BYD into a leading car maker, flood the market with lithium and make most projects like this irrelevant.
It still can be saved and the project can be realized if Europe wants to be self-sufficient - after seeing what Trump is doing. However, the best time to actually push through and work on this was in 2021, not 2025
