I think a lot of this is a macro trade. Mesoblast has statistically been a good stock to short, so in the expectation of more volatile and uncertain times, Mesoblast is a decent candidate for a long/short portfolio. This is in distinction from those who short sell the stock to push the price down and get out with volume when there is a cap raise (again: don't see this happening soon, and shorting has an interest expense component to the degree it is not collateralised).
Then again I'm just a retail chump at the end of the day: who knows.
